A kuldesak is where the human race finds itself in this ingenious tale of an underground earth inhabited by Roamers and Plants (who turn out to be animal rather than vegetable) and run by robots. The way out is discovered in the course of a standard adventurous-youths-escape-repressive-society plot, but appealing characters (including some endearing machines) and a well-handled mystery take this story out of the ordinary.
