HOW DOES IT WORK?

Based on the idea that modern man is a little more responsible when he knows how the gadgets work that he must live with and cope with, this book provides brief explanations of the operation of a multitude of machines and tools, from aerosols to zippers. The author discusses such mechanisms as automobile engines, air conditioners, clocks, doorbells, fuses, ovens and ranges, razors, washing machines, and the differences between various kinds of pots and pans -- to mention only a few. The book is not necessarily a repair manual, though that kind of information is, of course, implicit in the book's theme.
