When Jocasta's beloved companion and costar Belle (an Old English sheepdog) is kidnapped by Maxwell Pym, a film producer, the dauntless Jo flies after them in her handy little red seaplane, trailing them from Hollywood to New York, London, and ``Wangaloo'' in the Java Sea. There, she reclaims Belle and sets Pym's yacht adrift, stranding him and his accomplices until the police can pick them up. The slight plot is much enhanced by Gerrard's witty verse (pungent, felicitous words, all neatly rhyming and scanning without missing a beat) and even more by his elegantly mannered illustrations, setting the events in the 30's and using art deco touches not only in furnishings and architecture but in details (trees, waves, etc.) and in the decorations throughout. A round-the-world journey is standard picture-book fare, but this travelogue is unusually entertaining. (Picture book. 6+)

Fluffy, fast, fun reading for fans of Clueless McGee and the Wimpy Kid.
Miles used to live near the sea. Miles had friends. Miles was his school's greatest prankster...how will he survive a move to Yawnee Valley?

That's followed by an invitation to join forces in pranking from an unexpected source...no way! Let the prank war commence! Barnett and John launch their cow-resplendent illustrated series with the humorous origin story of the pranking duo who lend the series its name. Characters may be stock; however, the pranks are anything but, and it's peppered with cow facts. Cornell’s goofy cartoon illustrations (especially the blasé cows) add giggles aplenty.

Eleven-year-old Griffin Bing is “the man with the plan.” If something needs doing, Griffin carefully plans a fix and his best friend Ben usually gets roped in as assistant. When the town council ignores his plan for a skate park on the grounds of the soon-to-be demolished Rockford House, Griffin plans a camp-out in the house. While there, he discovers a rare Babe Ruth baseball card. His family’s money worries are suddenly a thing of the past, until unscrupulous collectables dealer S. Wendell Palomino swindles him. Griffin and Ben plan to snatch the card back with a little help. Pet-lover Savannah whispers the blood-thirsty Doberman. Rock-climber “Pitch” takes care of scaling the house. Budding-actor Logan distracts the nosy neighbor. Computer-expert Melissa hacks Palomino’s e-mail and the house alarm. Little goes according to plan, but everything turns out all right in this improbable but fun romp by the prolific and always entertaining Korman. (Fiction. 9-12)
