JEFFERSON

A one volume life of Jefferson, which is essentially readable and human, as a picture of the man whose whole career is a symbol of democracy. He has made Jefferson come alive with his gifts, his virtues, his weaknesses, his infinite capacity for growth, his maturity of understanding. One misses a sense of the background of history, of the influences he set in motion, but so much is there that it seems an excellent biography to serve as introduction to a great man.
