KIRKUS REVIEW

This is the fourth volume of The Face of America series, the small town in text and pictures, which follows the seasons, the people, occupations, social life, etc. Anderson's thesis is that the ""real test of democracy may come in the towns"" and his chapters are written with an eye to proving the importance of the small town, its place in our scheme of things, the value of its people, and the place, it has in the hearts of most Americans. Though it does not hit quite the high mark of As Long As The Grass Shall Grow, it should have a real appeal for many.
