Sam Acton, young member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, is offered a dazzling opportunity, financially speaking, by the father of his girl, to leave the force. But he decides to stay and feels rewarded after a long and difficult job of restoring law and order to a far outpost and bringing two ruthless men to justice. Incidental to the assignment- important to Sam, he succeeds in giving Louey, young outlaw, a healthy boyhood. Plenty of action --but that is about all to recommend it. Longstreth has been writing long enough to deserve censure for slipshod writing, cumbersome sentence structure, obscure phraseology.
