The nearest thing to an American Arthur Ransome story I've read- and very good reading it is. The three Scott children,-Martin, who was 13, the middle one, Mary, and principally Jerry, because he was the one who had most of the ideas, and a stubborn determination to get his way,- these three were precipitated into a situation which had a happy ending when they met their grandfather in Branford Harbor, and he took them on for a Fall cruise on inland waterways to Florida. Nobody dreamed that he would be taken ill at Portsmouth -- and the children on their own set off for St. Augustine. Adventure and nonsense -- but a good sailing yarn.
