JEWELRY, GEM CUTTING AND METALCRAFT

This is a revised edition of a book that is of increasing value as the handicraft which it deals with increases in popularity as a hobby. There is sound advice on tools and how to use them, illustrated by photographs; there is discussion of materials and their sources; instructions for casting rings, cutting gems, identification of gem stones and minerals. The gem cutting section has been completely rewritten, to take new methods and new conditions into consideration. The author is instructor in art metal and Jewelry at the Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington. A confessedly untrained observer, I felt the material on method was better than on design.
