This Is Us star Chrissy Metz is turning her talents to children’s literature, the Associated Press reports.
Metz will make her picture book debut next year with When I Talk to God, I Talk About You, co-written with her boyfriend, Bradley Collins, and illustrated by Lisa Fields. Publisher Flamingo calls the book “a gorgeous, heartwarming picture book of faith, prayer, and the loving bond between parent and child.”
Metz, a Florida native, made appearances in shows including Entourage and My Name Is Earl before landing a leading role as Kate Pearson in the NBC drama This Is Us in 2016. The show aired its final episode last week.
Her children’s book depicts different animals offering prayers to God as their children grow up. “This is a touching ode to unconditional love and the perfect book to help introduce little ones to prayer,” Flamingo says.
Metz is the author of a previous book, This Is Me: Loving the Person You Are Today, published in 2018 by Dey Street.
“It’s official…we wrote our very first children’s book!!” Metz announced on Instagram. “We are so grateful for the beautiful illustrations by @LisaFieldsIll, which brought this story to life in ways beyond our wildest dreams.”
Fields also used the social media site to announce the book, writing, “I poured my whole heart into these illustrations for them…I hope the art reflects that!”
When I Talk to God, I Talk About You is slated for publication on Feb. 14, 2023.
