Viking Penguin will publish two books by actor Zosia Mamet, the publisher announced in a news release Thursday.
Mamet will make her literary debut with My First Popsicle, “an anthology that explores intensely felt moments and the foods and dishes we associate with them,” the publisher said. Contributors to the anthology will include musician Patti Smith, actors Patti LuPone and Rosie Perez, and authors Jia Tolentino and David Sedaris.
She plans to follow that up with an essay collection “that will touch upon body image, bullying, relationships, and the time she almost got into a fist fight with Axl Rose.” That book is as yet untitled.
Mamet, the daughter of Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright David Mamet and Oscar-nominated actor Lindsay Crouse, first gained national attention as an actor for her recurring roles in the TV series Parenthood and Mad Men. She went on to star in the shows Girls, playing Shoshanna Shapiro, and The Flight Attendant, based on the novel by Chris Bohjalian.
“The anthology Zosia is curating is like an enviable dinner party—a spectrum of insightful contributors exploring the intersections between food and life,” Viking Executive Editor Meg Leder, said. “And we’re just as thrilled to be publishing her book of personal essays the following year—a vulnerable, witty, and relatable collection that makes you want to fight people on her behalf and immediately be her new best friend.”
My First Popsicle is scheduled for publication in the fall of 2022, with Mamet’s essay collection following a year later.
