Tess Sanchez’s essay collection is headed to the small screen, Deadline reports.
Warner Bros. Television is adapting Sanchez’s We’ve Decided To Go in a Different Direction as a series. The book, published in 2025 by Gallery, recounts how the author lost her job as a Hollywood casting director at the same time that her father was diagnosed with a serious illness. A critic for Kirkus wrote of the collection, “Very TV-literate readers who also love memoir—this book is for you.”
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times last year, Sanchez explained, “The essence of the book is really about my journey of trying to figure out why this particular job was so defining in my life, and who am I without that job? I had to look back at my career because when it went away, I just felt so empty and that enabled me to go back to the beginning and really dig in and review how I started in the industry, which bosses were amazing and how I got here. So that’s what I break down in the book.”
Executive producers of the series adaptation include Sanchez and her husband, actor Max Greenfield, whom Sanchez cast in the hit sitcom New Girl, and Mindy Kaling, the comedian and actor who frequently collaborates with Greenfield.
Sanchez shared news of the adaptation on Instagram, writing, “Whattttt? I am working with the coolest Queen of TV @mindykaling.…it is a pinch me moment/era! The other guy @iammaxgreenfield I hope to get to know as well!”
