Jack White is bringing his lyrics to the page with a new book coming later this year.
The musician, known for his tenure in the garage-rock band the White Stripes and his subsequent solo albums, will release Jack White: Collected Lyrics & Selected Writing: Volume 1, edited by Ben Blackwell, in the fall, he announced on Instagram. The book will be published by Third Man Books, the press he founded in 2014.
White formed the White Stripes in 1997 with Meg White, who was his wife at the time; the couple publicly pretended to be siblings. The band broke through in 2001 with their third album, White Blood Cells, which spawned the singles “Fell in Love With a Girl” and “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground.” They would go on to release three more albums, including Elephant, which featured its biggest hit, “Seven Nation Army,” now a staple of sporting events around the world.
The band broke up in 2011, and White went on to release six solo albums, most recently No Name in 2024.
His book, Third Man says, “compiles lyrics from White’s solo recordings thus far, alongside his acclaimed work with The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, and other collaborations. The anthology further includes selected poems and writing by White, rare and exclusive photos, and new essays written especially for this book by award-winning, Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award-nominated poet Adrian Matejka, award-winning, Detroit-based filmmaker and writer dream hampton, and Third Man Records co-founder Ben Blackwell.”
It is scheduled for publication on Oct. 21.
