Lizzo will make her kid lit debut with a picture book coming later this year.

Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers will publish the singer and rapper’s Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin', illustrated by Mark Pett, in the fall. The press calls the book a “charming and inspiring debut picture book from one of the world’s best-known and best-loved musical artists.”

Lizzo became a star with her 2019 breakout album, Cuz I Love You, scoring hit singles with “Juice,” “Good as Hell,” and “Rumors.” She has won four Grammy Awards and a Billboard Music Award.

Her book will follow a little girl who befriends a flute in search of a tune. Lizzo is an accomplished flautist who studied the instrument at the University of Houston and played it with the jazz-rock band Ellypseas.

Lizzo announced her book on CBS Mornings, telling host Gayle King, “Everyone always asks me my origin story with the flute. They’re like, ‘Why flute? How flute?’ This tells the real-life story of how I started playing flute.”

King asked Lizzo if writing a children’s book was a longtime dream.

“I love writing,” she replied. “I’ve always wanted to write the great American novel—I used to say that when I was a kid.…I think this is such a beautiful marriage of everything that’s me: It’s the flute, it’s music, it’s writing, and it’s also inspiring a new generation.”

Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’ is slated for publication on Sept. 8.
