It’s official: Prime Video gave a series order to its upcoming adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ Fourth Wing, Deadline reports. The order means that the streaming service has committed to producing a whole season of the series—welcome news to fans of Yarros’ bestselling novels.
Yarros’ TikTok-sensation romantasy novel, published in 2023 by Red Tower, follows Violet Sorrengail, a 20-year-old woman whose military general mother forces her to attend a dragon-riding school. A critic for Kirkus wrote of the novel, “Read this for the action-packed plot, not character development or worldbuilding.”
Fourth Wing is the first installment of Yarros’ bestselling Empyrean series, which continued with Iron Flame in 2023 and Onyx Storm in 2025.
News of the series adaptation, which is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios, was first announced in 2023. The original showrunner was Moira Walley-Beckett, but she has since been replaced by Meredith Averill (The Haunting of Hill House, Locke & Key). Executive producers on the project include Oscar-winning actor Michael B. Jordan, Yarros, and Lisa Joy (Westworld), who will direct the first episode.
Averill said, “Rebecca’s books have become one of the fastest-selling franchises of the 21st century, with a fandom so passionate, so devoted, they don’t just read these books, they live in them, and it’s because Fourth Wing is everything at once.”
And Yarros said, “These are the people who understand [what] a story means to its readers, and they’re passionate about the book, which is why I trust them completely.”
