Mitch Albom’s Twice is the latest pick for the Good Morning America book club.

Albom’s novel, set for publication Tuesday by Harper, follows Alfie Logan, who has the power to get a second chance at every moment in his life, but is forced to accept the consequences of each second try. A critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “Albom writes in a warm, easy style that transports the reader to a world of second chances and what-ifs, where spirituality lies close to the surface but never intrudes on the story.” The novel is being adapted as a film by Netflix with Paul Weitz (Bel Canto, Fatherhood) set to write and direct.

Albom talked about the origin of the novel on the morning show, saying, “Ever since Tuesdays With Morrie, I’ve noticed how people live and die with regrets, so I wanted to write a book about [how] people are always saying, If I could do it again, I would.”

Correspondent Lara Spencer asked Albom if he had any casting thoughts about the planned Netflix adaptation of the novel.

“I don’t cast the movie, but I think the lead guy would have to be somebody you can root for, maybe a Ryan Gosling type, or Brad Pitt or Glen Powell or any of those guys,” he said. “And the actress playing [Alfie’s love interest] Gianna, the director likes, and I do too, Hailee Steinfeld, who’s really great. No idea if she’s the slightest bit interested.”
