Isabel Klee stopped by the Today show to discuss her memoir, Dogs, Boys, and Other Things I’ve Cried About.
Klee’s bestselling book, published last month by Morrow, recounts her experience fostering dogs in her 20s and how it led to the large social media community she built on TikTok and Instagram. A critic for Kirkus called the book “a modest contribution to the canine bookshelf.”
Asked about taking care of dogs with illnesses or emotional issues, Klee said, “My dog Simon has really complex health issues, and I didn’t know that when I adopted him.…He completely changed my life; he changed the way I view love, that I view relationships, and my goal in life is to take these dogs that are deemed unadoptable and show the world how incredible they are.”
Klee discussed the recent news that her memoir is being adapted as a television series, which she will executive produce.
“It’s so crazy, not just because it’s being turned into a TV series, but because it’s my life being turned into a TV series,” she said. “I’m so excited. Sex and the City is a huge inspiration for me. Actually, [actor] Kristen Davis adopted one of my foster dogs, so it’s a very full-circle moment. I love shows like Girls, these real coming-of-age TV shows, and I’m excited to throw my hat in the ring and talk about your twenties and how chaotic and messy it can be, but how grounding…the love of a dog can be in the midst of all of that.”
