Jenna Bush Hager’s latest Today show book club pick is a throwback.

Hager has selected Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice as the December pick for her club. Austen’s novel, published in 1813, tells the story of Elizabeth Bennet, a young woman determined to marry for love instead of money. One of the most beloved works of English literature, the book was recently reissued by Vintage Classics with a new introduction by author Nicola Yoon.

The novel has been adapted for the stage and screen many times, including an Oscar-nominated 2005 movie directed by Joe Wright and starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. A new limited-series adaptation of the book, written by Dolly Alderton, directed by Euros Lyn, and starring Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden, is currently in the works at Netflix.

Hager announced the novel’s selection on the Today show, saying, “My grandmother Barbara actually introduced me to this book, and I’ll never forget, when I would go and stay with her, we’d listen to it together in the afternoon, and then we watched the entire PBS miniseries together….If you haven’t read Jane Austen, I hope this is your gateway drug and you fall in love with all of her work.”
