The audiobook edition of John Green’s next novel has found its cast.
Julia Whelan and Zachary Chastain will lend their voices to the Hollywood, Ending audiobook, Green announced in a video on Instagram.
Green’s novel, scheduled for publication on Sept. 22 by Dutton, is his first novel for adults. The story follows Kai Laramie and Juniper Castillo, two young actors who must navigate fame and their feelings for each other after they star in a hit Andy Warhol biopic. “Hollywood, Ending is a deeply observed novel about the tension between a public and a private life, and the audacity to pursue the kind of love we all deserve,” Dutton says of the book.
Whelan is one of the audiobook industry’s most prolific narrators, having voiced more than 700 books, including, most recently, Emma Brodie’s Into the Blue and Annabel Monaghan’s Dolly All the Time. Chastain’s previous audiobook credits include Grady Chambers’ Great Disasters and Cassie Miller’s Meet Me Under the Lights.
In his video, Green praised Whelan, saying, “Usually I don’t try to put my finger on the scales when it comes to casting and stuff, because that’s not my business, I’m just an author. But with Julia, I was like, ‘Is there any way we could get Julia Whelan?’ And we did!”
He noted that Chastain is “much newer to the world of audiobooks” but asserted, “They’re both brilliant narrators.”
Green himself has narrated two of his own audiobooks: The Anthropocene Reviewed and Everything Is Tuberculosis, the latter earning him an Audie Award for best narration by the author.
