Jason Arnopp’s The Last Days of Jack Sparks is headed to the small screen, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Arnopp’s novel, published in 2016 by Orbit/Little, Brown, follows a louche author who dies after attempting to debunk the supernatural world by way of deriding an exorcism he watches. A critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “To say Jack wears out his welcome would be to imply he had one to begin with. And the knowing quality of the writing can’t disguise the worn-out cynic-gets-his-comeuppance premise.”

Rob Savage (Host, Dashcam) will direct the series; he is also behind the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King’s short story The Boogeyman. The series will be written by Gaby Hull, who has written for shows including Cheat and Two Weeks To Live, and produced by Vertigo Films.

“Bringing diabolically wonderful books like Jason’s to the screen is a rare treat,” Savage said. “The disturbing, hilarious and terrifying story of Jack Sparks is such a unique take on the genre, one that will give audiences a new reason to fear the dark.…I’m delighted to be working with the batshit Vertigo Films again on this batshit horror odyssey.”

Arnopp expressed his optimism for the project, saying, “I know that Jack Sparks himself would raise several glasses to these creative hellions and loudly declare that they will do his gruesome and tragic story proud.”
