Kelly Bishop will tell the story of her life and career in a new memoir, People magazine reports.
Gallery Books will publish the actor and dancer’s The Third Gilmore Girl this fall. The Simon & Schuster imprint describes the book as “a warm, unapologetic, and spirited memoir from a woman who has left indelible impressions on her audiences for decades and has no plans on slowing down.”
Bishop, a Colorado native, worked as a dancer before landing her breakout role as Sheila in the 1975 Broadway musical A Chorus Line; she won a Tony Award for her performance. She went on to act in films including Dirty Dancing and Wonder Boys and TV series such as The Thorns and The Good Wife. She is perhaps best known for her performance as Emily Gilmore in the popular series Gilmore Girls, which also starred Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel.
In her book, Gallery says, Bishop “shares some of her greatest stories and the life lessons she’s learned on her journey. From her early transition from dance to drama, to marrying young to a compulsive gambler, to the losses and achievements she experienced—among them marching for women’s rights and losing her second husband to cancer—Bishop offers a rich, genuine celebration of her life.”
“From my first steps onto a Broadway stage to the town of Stars Hollow, I am excited to take my fans along with me through the story of my life,” Bishop told People.
The Third Gilmore Girl is scheduled for publication on Sept. 17.
