Prime Video has dropped a trailer for Scarpetta, its upcoming series based on Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling series of novels about the crime-solving forensic pathologist Kay Scarpetta.

Scarpetta made her first appearance in Cornwell’s 1990 novel Postmortem, which won the Edgar Award for best first novel. The character has gone on to feature in 28 more novels, most recently Sharp Force, published last October by Grand Central.
Prime Video’s series adaptation was announced in 2023. It stars Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Lion) as Kay Scarpetta and Jamie Lee Curtis (Freaky Friday, Everything Everywhere All at Once) as Kay’s older sister, Dorothy Scarpetta. Other cast members include Ariana DeBose, Bobby Cannavale, and Simon Baker. Executive producers of the series include Cornwell, Kidman, and Curtis.
The trailer opens with Kidman saying in a voiceover, “I, Dr. Kay Scarpetta, do solemnly swear I will faithfully and impartially discharge all of the duties incumbent upon me as chief medical examiner to the best of my ability. Second time’s a charm.”
In another scene, Cannavale, playing former detective Pete Marino, tells Kidman, “Second chances, pretty hard to resist, right?” Kidman replies, “Is it a second chance, or am I just looking to mess myself up again?”
Later, Kidman says in another voiceover, “This case and my first one—there are too many commonalities for them not to be connected.”
Scarpetta is set to premiere on March 11.
