Sen. Tim Scott tells the Post and Courier of Charleston, South Carolina, that he’s not planning a presidential run in 2024—despite what his own book says.
The copyright page of the South Carolina Republican’s America, a Redemption Story contains two sentences reading, “Senator Scott is a rising star who sees and understands the importance of bipartisanship to move America forward. This book is a political memoir that includes his core messages as he prepares to make a presidential bid in 2022.”
The text came as news to Scott, who told the newspaper, “That’s fascinating that that’s the copy on the book.” When a reporter asked if the book was meant to mark the launch of a presidential run, he answered, “Not for me it’s not.”
Scott, who has served in the Senate for more than nine years, is frequently mentioned as a possible GOP candidate for president. He recently traveled to Iowa, a common trip for prospective presidential candidates.
Thomas Nelson, which is set to publish Scott’s book next Tuesday, said the text in the book was a mistake on its part.
“The description on the copyright page was our error and is not accurate,” a spokesperson for the publisher told the Post and Courier. “It was not done at the direction or approval of the Senator or his team. We are working to correct this immediately.”
