A sequel to the March trilogy, the critically acclaimed graphic autobiography series by the late congressman John Lewis, is coming this summer.
Abrams will publish Run: Book One, written by Lewis and Andrew Aydin and illustrated by Nate Powell, the press announced in a news release.
“Picking up after the signing of the Voting Rights Act in 1965, Run: Book One opens with John Lewis and his colleagues facing another arrest as the Ku Klux Klan prepares their largest hooded march in years,” the publisher said. “Meticulously researched and brought to life in stunning visual detail, Lewis recounts the highs and lows of a movement fighting to harness their hard-won legal protections.”
The March trilogy was one of the most critically acclaimed book series in recent years. The final book in the trilogy became the first graphic book to win a National Book Award, and Lewis’ emotional acceptance speech at the ceremony was one of the most memorable moments in the prize’s history.
“In sharing my story, it is my hope that a new generation will be inspired by Run to actively participate in the democratic process and help build a more perfect union here in America,” Lewis said before his death in 2020.
Run: Book One is slated for publication on Aug. 3.
