Pop singer David Archuleta will tell the story of his life and career in a new memoir, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Dey Street Books plans to publish Archuleta’s memoir, which does not yet have a title or publication date.

Archuleta, a Miami native who was raised near Salt Lake City, Utah, first gained fame at 17 when he appeared on the reality competition series American Idol, finishing second to David Cook. He released his eponymous debut album in 2008, which spawned the hit single “Crush.” Seven more albums followed, most recently Therapy Sessions in 2020.

In 2021, he came out as part of the LGBTQ+ community, and last year announced that he was no longer a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the religion in which he was raised.

In an interview with People magazine last November, Archuleta said that his relationships with some of his Mormon friends changed after he came out.

“They were cold with me, and so it’s like, ‘You know what? I’m still trying to get these people’s approval even though I’m no longer a part of this and don’t believe it anymore,’” he said. “I just need to move on.”

Archuleta told the Reporter, “Through encouragement from friends, I’ve decided it’s important to share my story. I hope it will help others understand the struggles those in the LGBTQ+ community have coming out in religious communities, provide light to anyone navigating difficult family dynamics or faith transitions, and encourage everyone to give more room to love yourself.”
