The author of the 2006 horror novel World War Z—which terrified readers with a totally rational fear of being pulled limb from limb by zombies—has found a new way to give you nightmares.
A forthcoming novel from writer and actor Max Brooks will take on another fictional (or so they want you to believe) monster: Bigfoot, the hirsute giant who allegedly stalks the forests of the Pacific Northwest.
“Devolution: A Firsthand Account of the Rainier Sasquatch Massacre,” Brook’s first adult novel in 14 years, will hit shelves in May2020, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The “found-document novel” is being published by Del Rey.
The publisher describes the book as “part survival narrative, part bloody horror tale, part scientific journey into the boundaries between truth and fiction.”
Brooks’ World War Z became a bestseller upon its release, landing on the New York Times bestseller list for a month. Kirkus called the novel “a literate, ironic, strangely tasty treat for fans of 28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead, The Last Man on Earth and other treasures of the zombie/counterzombie genre.” The novel spawned a 2013 film adaptation starring Brad Pitt, as well as two video games; all were hits.
Brooks confirmed the news of his new book on Twitter. Bigfoot, however, did not return requests for comment by press time.
