Reminiscent of Poe's "Tell-Tale Heart," this story begins with manic introspection. A man is trying to decide if he has really experienced a metaphysical event--or if he's going mad. An abrupt switch in point of view from the first person in the opening to third-person narration for the remainder of the story is a bit confusing as there is no pause or warning. But Christopher Price steps up to the storytelling delightfully as the listener delves into protagonist David's life after he witnesses a supernatural occurrence. Price captures the mortuary's crew with aplomb, as well as the doubting townspeople whom David has to deal with after he becomes a local oddity. Listeners who enjoy a modern ghost story will enjoy this.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
