Nneka Okoye narrates a delightfully queer and fiendishly magical Regency romance. After his sister, Mary, makes an ill-advised wish, John Cesar and the dashing Captain Orestes James do their best to save her from the result. Okoye dazzles in her role as Robin Goodfellow, the capricious fey narrator of the story. Her performance captures the arch tone and wry humor that are Robin's hallmarks. Okoye also skillfully portrays the myriad human characters, with their varied human accents. As Mr. Cesar and Captain James work to save Mary, they also grudgingly work on their own relationship, letting Okoye bare brutal emotional truths. While on the surface this audiobook seems like a simple piece of fluff, Okoye gives it an astonishing resonance that will linger.

After devastating losses, Medra and her allies face rising threats as a corrupted dragon awakens, while fragile alliances and dangerous secrets push everyone to their limits. Relationships grow more complex as trust fractures and loyalties shift. The performances of Hannah Hedley, Justin Hill, Persephone Lee, and Olivia Wright truly elevate the story. Each narrator delivers distinct voices with clarity and emotional depth, making every character feel fully realized. The pacing flows naturally, balancing high-stakes action with intimate, character-driven moments. Narrators Samantha Brentmoor and Ryan West truly elevate this listening experience. Set in the magical world of Ellonrift, the story follows Idallia, a warrior in the Dragon King’s Elite Wing who is searching for answers about her mysterious origins. She’s also navigating her growing feelings for King Bale Cinderheart as tensions between kingdoms rise. Brentmoor brings strength, emotion, and subtle vulnerability to Idallia, making her internal conflict feel authentic and compelling. West gives Bale a commanding, confident presence while still conveying depth and restraint. Brentmoor and West’s voices complement each other, and the chemistry evident in their delivery of dialogue enhances the story’s slow-burn tension.

Expressive delivery and emotional nuance make this audiobook an especially immersive and enjoyable listen.
