COME TO ME

This wonderful collection of stories will appeal to readers who generally prefer longer fiction, as well as those who love short stories. The 12 stories are all told by people who are walking on the edge of love and disaster: a single mother just recovering from birth, a young woman watching her sister slip into madness, a boy who witnesses the accidental death of his cousin, a husband contemplating infidelity. Bloom fearlessly presents narrators of various ages and both sexes. She often retells the same story from the point of view of the various characters who appear in it. Tonya Jordan's reading is adequate, except for the occasional odd pronunciation. It is the stories themselves and the characters the reader meets in them that recommend this remarkable audiobook.

      18mm BLUES

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
