Kluth uses the life of the scourge of Ancient Rome, Hannibal—as well as the lives of Albert Einstein, Eleanor Roosevelt, explorer Ernest Shackleford, and West German Chancellor Ludwig Erhard—to illuminate how to achieve one’s goals despite the many setbacks that are inevitable in life. Through these examples we see that setbacks create opportunities and that often our victories contain the seeds of our downfall. Runnette’s delivery is earnest, and his baritone voice engagingly resonant. Those qualities, combined with such an interesting text, make for an engaging listening experience.
