by Arnaldur Indridason ; translated by Victoria Cribb ; read by Sean Barrett ‧ RELEASE DATE: Aug. 17, 2021
Narrator Sean Barrett portrays the taciturn retired Inspector Konrad, who is called back into service to investigate the frozen body of a thirty-year-old cold case. Barrett's tone reflects the famous restraint of Icelandic society. He manages Konrad's signature introversion while also drawing listeners into the intricate plot of the mystery. An experienced narrator, he balances the pace of the story with much the same deftness that the writer demonstrates. Fans of Nordic noir will enjoy this performance. For those new to the genre and looking for an easy start, Barrett offers an expert entry into a world of danger and intrigue.

Narrator Will Damron returns to masterfully deliver this second installment of the Catalina series. As the audiobook kicks off, listeners are immediately drawn into a supposed smuggling drop at a remote airport in the Catalina hills. After the fallout from the airport operation, Detective Sergeant Stilwell, frustrated to be sidelined, focuses on a cold case that has him partnering with a crossover character from Connelly's other series, detective Renée Ballard. Fans will be delighted by the cameo appearance of Harry Bosch. Damron expertly differentiates the many characters, male and female, and powerfully ratchets up the tension.

Narrator January LaVoy is truly a vocal shape-shifter. She skillfully voices female and male characters of all ages and ethnicities in this thriller. A man desperately searching for his teenage daughter approaches journalist Cindy Thomas to enlist her help. Meanwhile, detective Lindsay Boxer is investigating the recent murders of several young women, leading her into the dark world of human trafficking. As with the previous books in this series, the pace is high-speed, and chapters alternate among multiple points of view. Thanks to LaVoy's ability to differentiate the numerous characters, listeners will track the plotlines as they twist and turn and as each member of the Murder Club shares their professional and personal lives.
