The sequel to EMMA’S SECRET continues the Harte family saga, which began with Emma Harte in WOMAN OF SUBSTANCE. Now three generations of Harte women, bound by danger, loyalties, and family secrets, join together against an unidentified enemy. Kate Burton captures the essence of each character with a variety of accents, shifting diction, and varying vocal tones. Her versatile range is a solid fit for characters of either gender and varying ages, and she is exceptional depicting children. Burton’s delivery and timing are impeccable. The only flaw is the story’s multiplicity of characters, which makes the plot difficult to follow.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
