by Belinda Bauer ; Read by Phil Dunster ‧ RELEASE DATE: April 8, 2025
Phil Dunster's narration draws listeners into this mystery revolving around the now illegal collection of birds' eggs. The story is based in Yorkshire, England, in the 1920s and then jumps to current times. Listeners follow the journey of a rare egg that is found by a girl who risks her life by joining the many men who are precariously dangled over the edges of cliffs to obtain guillemot eggs. One hundred years later in Wales, this same type of egg draws friends Patrick and Nick into danger. Dunster's strong narration and use of rich northern English and Welsh accents create the perfect backdrop for this story. His characterizations help listeners differentiate the two timelines, and his portrayals of Patrick and Nick ensure their likability.

To Fred Fairly, a Cambridge Fellow, truth is everything. What then is the truth about the woman he finds beside him when he awakens? English conventions and mores of 1912 Cambridge are central to this period piece. Callow's wonderful voice and interpretation make accents, personalities and gender come alive, and help make sense of the frequent time and character shifts.
