Bushnell’s novel about famous author PJ Wallace and the explosive impact that PJ’s own creation, the fictional party girl Monica, has on PJ’s life seems so perfectly meta that listeners will begin to wonder how many of the details Bushnell took from her own experience writing "Sex and the City." Narrator Thérèse Plummer invokes passion in delivering PJ’s inner monologues as well as her expressive emotions in her interactions with her confidant and editor, Henry; her “frenemy,” SondraBeth Schnowzer; and her soon-to-be ex-husband, Johnny. Plummer’s impeccable timing enhances Bushnell’s wit in a story in which the real focus is the power of female friendship. The book ends with a twist that will make PJ all the more endearing and memorable.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
