by Chitra Soundar ; illustrated by Uma Krishnaswamy ; Read by Deepti Gupta ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 13, 2022
Deepti Gupta's warm, expressive voice lends authenticity to this third volume of lively trickster stories inspired by traditional Indian folktales. As in MANGOES, MISCHIEF, AND TALES OF FRIENDSHIP, these new adventures feature the two young protagonists Prince Veera and his best friend, Suku. This time, while on a visit to the Prince's great-uncle during the summer festival, the pair are challenged to solve mysteries and find clever answers to the tricky puzzles they love. Gupta's enhancement of the narrative comes through in the individual characters' voices; she is especially engaging in her delivery of the boys' youthful enthusiasm and boisterous humor. Essential truths about good versus evil and right versus wrong promote acts of fairness, compassion, and honesty in an entertaining and thought-provoking listen.

by Margaret Mahy ; Read by Richard Mitchley ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
"When suddenly, on an ordinary Wednesday, it seemed to Barney that the world tilted and ran downhill in all directions, he knew he was about to be haunted again." So begins Mahy's classic story of an eight-year-old boy's struggle between family history and individual destiny. Richard Mitchley's supple voice and lively pacing combine to create a middle ground--neither wholly real nor entirely imaginary--where Mahy's characters weave their subtly shifting patterns of relationships imperceptibly changed by death and birth. This story and voice linger in the mind long after the tape is over.

by J.M. Barrie ; illustrated by Scott Gustafson ; Read by Carolyn Noone ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
The ghost of Mary Martin's Peter Pan is here in the nasal coyness the narrator gives to Peter. The other characters are gently characterized, and the overall effect is soft and professional. Noone's voice is calming; she sounds as if she has a dozen children sitting at her knees listening intently, and she speaks her story with slow relish. The end of each side is signaled by soft music, a nice touch; there are no other enhancements. This is a good rendition of a familiar classic.
