Originally published in 1999, Moore's amusing tale of sex, drugs, and sea creatures gains a second life in the voice of Oliver Wyman. As the local therapist begins experimenting with her patients' medications and the local constable gives up his habitual marijuana use, a sea creature rises from his murky sleep, and Pine Cove becomes center stage for all sorts of chaos and zaniness. Wyman's soft, congenial voice proves perfect for Moore's sardonic yet bemused tone, especially when paired with characters such as Constable Theophilus Crowe. Wyman maintains a nuanced and steady narrative while also portraying a cast of multiple species with eccentric and, often, slightly perverted personalities.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
