Hollywood insider Mimi Hare and seasoned writer Clare Naylor have teamed up to create a wickedly funny look at an appearance-obsessed, name-dropping, ego-driven industry from the eyes of naïve outsider Elizabeth Miller. Ali Marsh Weller does an excellent job portraying the clueless heroine as she navigates her way through the maze of personalities and mores of her adopted city. Thanks to Weller's skillful reading, Elizabeth comes across as incredulous but savvy, and other characters, though quirky, become likable and believable. Matching the mood set by Weller, chapters are divided by hip, upbeat music. Production elements, fine and entertaining writing, and gifted narration come together for a wonderful escape package.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
