It’s hard to imagine anyone else narrating musician Dave Grohl’s memoir. Not only is his voice familiar to Foo Fighters fans, his high-energy personality comes through in both his writing and his narration. The most engaging stories come early on, starting with Grohl’s quitting school to join a punk band at age 16. His post-fame recollections are entertaining and funny, as long as listeners aren’t looking for scenes of debauchery. It turns out Grohl is a genuinely decent family man. Yet while he is introspective about his career, he reveals only glimpses of his family life (fair enough), and even less about his friendship with Kurt Cobain. Still, there’s no shortage of memorable vignettes here, and Grohl’s likability and verve come through in every word. A storyteller indeed. D.B. 2022 Audies Finalist © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine

An entertaining memoir by a true all-American of popular culture.
Bradshaw's football career ended in the 1980s, and these days he's probably most widely known for his ubiquitous cultural presence in movies, commercials, and reality television. Bradshaw takes a long and detailed look back at his consequential life decisions. He's a gifted narrator and storyteller, the kind of guy who can instantly build rapport with his audience. It's no surprise this audiobook is entertaining and occasionally moving. As Bradshaw reflects on the characters he's played over the years, essentially simple variations of himself, his voice reflects a self-effacing humility. Bradshaw has been able to build his extended second career with this warm approachability.

Throughout this solid performance, listeners will hear both pain and steadfastness.
This is a different take on the celebrity memoir. Lundgren, the Swede best known as Russian fighting behemoth Drago in Rocky IV, offers a straightforward, unadorned, and candid text with a workmanlike narration that suits his firsthand reflections. The perspectives of male members of his entourage, such as his managers and trainers, are voiced with great skill and variety by Rick Adamson, while personal reflections from women are voiced by the equally skilled Nan McNamara. Lundgren has suffered multiple bouts of cancer, and his memoir goes beyond karate belts and film performances to focus on his health battles. Now an American citizen, Lundgren shares his love for his adopted country.
