Her serious yet approachable tone and sure cadence work for this detailed and demanding manifesto on regenerative farming. Merlington does especially good work on the profiles and interviews that underpin the husband-and-wife team's thorough research, which upends the way that industrial farming--aiming for quantity over quality--has depleted soils. This argument for no-till agriculture, regenerative grazing practices, and eliminating the impact of synthetic fertilizers on the land provides the listener with a detailed blueprint of how the health of the soil affects human health. The authors argue persuasively that we need to adopt the policies of the future now.

Dr. Plotkin is an ethnobotanist who recounts his experiences searching for new medications in the Amazon rain forest. He makes an impassioned plea for the world to stop destroying this irreplaceable resource. Since the author reads his own work, we can rely on the pronunciation of some unusual botanical terms; however, his voice (presumably not trained for performance) lacks the enthusiasm and fascination the words suggest. Furthermore, with no chapter references and few pauses between sections, transitions, such as the change of location from Ecuador to Massachusetts, are awkward.
