A young girl is killed by a drunk driver. Her parents divorce and cope separately with the child’s death. The driver, now free from prison, unknowingly awaits his final penance: being murdered at the hands of the child’s father. All the violence and emotional pain of such tragedy are captured in this well-produced tape. Dick Hill personalizes each character and leaves a photographic image of events and settings in the mind of the listener. Sound and echo chambers are used effectively for flashbacks. Long after hearing the tape, which contains scenes and language not recommended for family entertainment, one will remember the people brought to life by Hill’s superlative narration.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
