This is a classic boy-meets-girl story set on Long Island in a functioning observatory. A subplot involves the difficult relationship of two twins who are practically strangers. Our heroine is the unglamorous twin, who falls in love while staying at her sister's house following a tragic accident. While lacking intensity the story is believable. In a pleasing voice, narrator Linda Stephens presents the characters in a straightforward, plodding fashion. Her presentation is appropriate to a story of mature love. This tape is recommended for romance lovers who favor tales about realistic middle-aged protagonists, rather than passionate young lovers.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
