A news reporter and a model have apparently committed suicide, but New York detective Jimmy Montone believes that the two have actually been murdered. To solve the case, Montone must discover the link between the victims, a British writer and himself. John Rubinstein's superlative performance draws the listener into this psychological thriller and never lets go. He immerses himself into the two lead characters--Montone, the hardened cop haunted by his past, and Terry Keyes, the suave, mischievous and dangerous writer. Keyes's playful but deceitful nature is brilliantly expressed, successfully communicating to the listener not to trust this character. Rubinstein skillfully creates a distinct personality for each character and masterfully handles different voices and accents. It's obvious that Rubinstein had fun narrating this suspenseful thriller, and listeners will enjoy this story and his performance.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
