HOW I BUILT THIS

THE UNEXPECTED PATHS TO SUCCESS FROM THE WORLD'S MOST INSPIRING ENTREPRENEURS

NPR host and podcast star Guy Raz interviewed more than 200 entrepreneurs to find out what made them successful. As a narrator, he has perfected the type of vocal drama and glitzy enthusiasm that make this audio program so much fun to hear. It's an intense, in-your-face performance that might sound over the top at first but works well with business sagas that are teaming with drama. The author highlights the theme of the hero's journey, which is at the heart of each entrepreneur's path to success. With so many instructive stories, this is an MBA-level course in developing an idea, getting funding, and managing growth. Raz's believable excitement inspires hope that anyone can start a business, work hard, and persevere in the face of setbacks. T.W. 2021 Audies Finalist © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine

This audiobook deals with everything from the historic investments that led to world-dominating companies, such as the Chinese technology company Tencent, to predicting the products and services of the future. An audiobook of such complexity requires a narrator who can handle the task, and David Thorpe manages it admirably. Thorpe uses his masterly voice, which sits somewhere between that of a BBC World Service presenter and an easy, relaxed Home Counties accent, to guide listeners through a sea of numbers, acronyms, and terms such as YP, RPS, and market cap. Rather than simply reading, Thorpe presents the work with excitement and enthusiasm, and this enjoyment transfers to the listener.

      An engaging experience.
