This bloody, violent, action-packed techno-thriller features Cain, an engineered superhuman possessed by Satan, versus Solomon, a retired commando who nearly died while avenging his family's death. The pace is relentless, the violence graphic and the narration by Boyd Gaines superb: He easily switches from Solomon's tightly controlled anger to Cain's growling inhuman voice and creates a convincing vocal presence for the young girl who is the focus of Cain's search. Gaines captures the suspense, terror and fear, gripping the listener by the throat while staying in control of the narration. Keep the lights on for this one.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
