by James M. Banner Jr. ; read by Bob Souer ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 16, 2021
Bob Souer narrates this academic study of the writing of history and its subsequent and inevitable revisions. Beginning with Herodotus and Thucydides, Eusebius and other church fathers, the work progresses rapidly through the late eighteenth century and on to the early 21st, focusing mostly on historians of the French Revolution and the American Civil War. Souer maintains a continuous recitation of names, dates, and in-depth discussions of historical works with few pauses for listeners to cogitate over concepts and theories. Souer rarely shifts tone or pace when reading quotations, making listeners uncertain when they end. Those familiar with historiography will find this work an excellent review. For others, Souer's nonstop reading may be daunting.

by Carol Matthau ; read by Carol Matthau ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
Carol Matthau epitomizes a glamour and lifestyle not associated with the 1990's. Here is a life of privilege, tragedy and worry about what friends would think of her new frock or lover. Matthau possesses a voice and delivery that simply could not be improved on. In her coy whisper, she tells compelling stories involving everyone from William Saroyan (husband #1) and Truman Capote to Carson McCullers, Gloria Vanderbilt, and Walter Matthau (husband #2). This excellent audio presentation will leave you wanting to read the entire book to discover what juicy tidbits were left out.

If you have a warm spot for Air Supply or REO Speedwagon, hit play.
Eric Jason Martin’s narration of this oral history is not unlike that of late-70s FM radio DJs, whose relaxed, conversational delivery and intimate tone paved the way for the Album-Oriented Rock (AOR) radio format. As Martin explains, adventurous DJs who curated album cuts were undermined by risk-averse playlists created by radio consultants. These playlists guaranteed the ascension of talented but fungible acts such as Foreigner, Toto, Journey, Boston, Kansas, Styx, and Jefferson Starship. The “safe” rock format enjoyed massive success with the birth of MTV and the incorporation of FM radios into car dashboards, then flatlined in the late ’80s, only to be revived by cable TV show soundtracks.
