Tanya Eby narrates this quirky, funny story of high school dropout Cassie Shaw and her pet parrot. In rising tones, she portrays Cassie's anxiety when she lies on her resumé about having a degree in psychology. Cassie can't find a job and feels she doesn't have a choice. With tight pacing Eby captures Cassie's mounting panic at being exposed in a pending interview. Some of the best parts of the production are Eby's portrayals of Cassie's parrot, which mimics her with raucous repetition. Eby's textured characterizations, subtle accents, and enunciation bring these characters to life, making this a pleasing audio experience.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
