When Pulitzer Prize winner Lahiri began writing in Italian, her relationship with words shifted, becoming more conscious and thoughtful. This audiobook explores aspects of that shift. Sneha Mathan is an excellent narrator; her voice is precise and animated, lending a personal element to the audiobook's tone that makes its subject come alive. The essays are specialized in subject matter, and hearing about language on such a deep level instead of reading the words on a page does present challenges. Indeed, some reflections are explored so meticulously that they may be better suited to print. For those fascinated by how we express our thoughts, Mathan's lovely pace and cadence make this audiobook an irresistible listen.

Inspiring collections of Angelou reading her poetry. These selections showcase Angelou's smooth, lyrical voice and her warm vitality. Her innate rhythm celebrates her verse and offers the poems to listeners as they should be remembered. Occasionally Angelou comments between the selections, and occasionally she interjects a resonant laugh.

Quite interesting, if ancient history is one’s interest.
Born in Wales, Llewellyn-Jones is professor of ancient history at Cardiff University, and his narration is both heavily accented and professorial. His history of one of the world's first great metropolises is based on hard archeological evidence and is in equal parts a debunking and a rehabilitation. Much of Babylon still remains, in fact. While all those layers of grit are still being sifted and those thousands of mostly mundane cuneiform tablets translated, what Llewellyn-Jones focuses on here is primarily a line of kings and some epics. His research is thorough, scrupulous, and detailed. A particular high point is his retelling of the Epic of Gilgamesh.
