This heartwarming story will make you feel that you’ve made new friends and found a new neighborhood to visit. Carrington MacDuffie’s charming and sweet Southern drawl adds to the hominess and appeal of each character. MacDuffie has a delightful voice and the ability to personify both the kind and loving Elizabeth, the cranky but lovable characters of Attalee and MeeMaw, as well as Insane Duane, the rent-to-own retailer. The town of Cayboo Creek comes alive as a love story unfolds and a mystery is revealed, focusing on the battle between a local business and an invading megastore. The only problem with this audiobook is that it ends too soon!

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
