Jen Dixon, kindergarten-class-mom-extraordinaire, fires off delightfully sarcastic emails to parents that are peppered with jokes about response times and bribes, along with normal parent-teacher conference scheduling content. Author Laurie Gelman provides a fast- paced account of a mom who is navigating other kids' allergies, a sexy teacher who generates gossip, and class parents who include an old flame and scheming moms. Gelman doesn't vary her voice much for different characters, but listeners will enjoy the story, which feels as if their favorite mom friend is regaling them with tales from her own life of mom uniforms and substitute words that are safe for kid ears. Gelman's voice is energizing, and her cadence confiding in this debut novel.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
