Meanwhile, a sleeping sickness is plaguing the city and Dreamwalkers Henry and Ling Chan try to find the cause. In a plot crowded with so many characters, LaVoy doesn’t utter a false note. Her vocal range is awe inspiring, her characters are fully developed, and her voice is lovely. The divine duo of Libba Bray and January LaVoy does not disappoint.

While narrator Emily Wilden brings protagonist Merry to life with a rich Welsh accent, her narration seems uneven at times. All the period characters have accents that reflect the setting of the story and transport listeners to Wales. Listeners who enjoy historical fiction and a bit of fantasy will be charmed by this tale of determination, hope, and family.
