The Miss Margarets, known as Miss Peggy, Dr. Maggie, and Miss Li'l Bit, are an odd threesome, whose alliance seems like a given in their Southern town--but how it formed is, of course, a story. There are secrets in the town's past, some dark and ancient wrongs, and hidden deeds that seem less Gothic than morally complex in Linda Stephens's thoughtful and elegant performance. She makes the Miss Margarets vivid and sympathetic, and is equally skillful with young Laurel's grudge against them and with the handsome reporter from New York whose arrival prods awake the sleeping dogs. All the players in this intriguing story are fully formed and believable in Stephens's graceful reading.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
